The qualities and dynamics we see in the natural environment, often duplicate our own human condition, reminding us of our place in the world, to connect, be replenished and nurtured by nature.
I was drawn to this particular Blackwood by its intricate and detailed beauty, exploring in depth its contours, tonal layers and placement within the landscape. Navigating what to reveal and conceal, the detailed tree sits within a softened, reductive landscape.
Kathryn's Tree, sits timelessly within an ethereal space, bathed in softened light. Alluding to the romantic, it draws you in, up close and personal, to navigate the tree's details as it takes its place in the wider landscape.
We see my ongoing themes: the juxtaposition of strength and fragility, the intimate and distant, the fleeting and solid; played out through the treatment of shadow and light and meticulous layers of glazing, simultaneously bold and subtle, precise and ambiguous.
